Derwent Valley Orienteers is the Club for orienteers of all ages in Derbyshire. Founded in 1969, we have around 200 members, and put on events throughout the county. We welcome beginners and regular runners, as there are always a variety of courses available at events, and help with using the orienteering map and the timing chip.
You can run, jog or walk, on your own or with friends. You need to use a special orienteering map overprinted with your particular course, to find checkpoints that you visit, in order, then download your chip at the Finish and see how you did compared with other people. It’s a fun way to exercise, as you’re so focussed on finding the checkpoints that you hardly notice you’re running! We encourage children to compete in a structured program to suit their age and ability, but there are also courses for adults of all ages, from elite men and women right up to people in their 90s. Orienteering really is the mind and body sport!
