After a quiet period the forum revived the City of Derby Sports Awards in the form of a ceremony last year.
The event, in the mayor’s reception room at the Council House in October, 2018, was a great event attended by category winners and guests meaning that their efforts were recognised by fellow sports men and women.
The event, where forum vice-chair Kevin Palmer acted as MC, was addressed by the Mayor, Councillor John Whitby, with forum ambassador Ross Davenport handing out the certificates.
Unfortunately, because of various administrative changes which were beyond the forum’s responsibilities, it was not possible to arrange an awards event for the city this year to recognise athletes, coaches, teams, and clubs for their efforts during the year.
The forum is looking to see if this can be rectified in future so that people’s achievements are given the just recognition that they deserve.
