It was an interesting afternoon down at the Midland Canoe Club on Thursday, 14th October, as eight of us assisted a Channel 4 film crew with Top Gear’s Richard Hammond, as they filmed some of our stretch of the Derwent, from Darley Abbey down to the town centre, for a forthcoming documentary on British rivers (we think to be broadcast in the New Year), and in the process with Mr Hammond becoming proficient in his canoeing ‘J-stroke’* from basic principles.
